In the early 1990s Holger Beier
started the Berlin DJ Team Le Hammond
Inferno together with Marcus Liesenfeld.
With their eclectic mix of indie pop,
electronica, French 60s and danceable
soundtracks they quickly became a noted
alternative to the techno sound that was
so ubiquitous in Berlin. Their parties
became quite popular, boasting international
guests such as Saint Etienne,
Stereolab, Mouse on Mars, Pizzicato 5
and Momus. In 1994 they toured with
Blur from England. In 1995 Holger Beier
co-founded the record label BungalowRecords, together with Marcus Liesenfeld
and Christof Ellinghaus (CitySlang).
Within a few years they had released the
work of Stereo Total, Fantastic Plastic
Machine, Momus, Yoshinori Sunahara,
Peter Thomas Sound Orchester and many
more. In addition to these single artists
albums the label became renowned for
its elaborate Club Pop Compilations. The
Japan Compilations Sushi 3003 & Sushi
4004 were internationally successful.
Thanks to the releases on Bungalow Records
and his work as a DJ, Holger Beier
got to travel to Japan, South America,
Russia, USA and all over Europe.
In 2006 he moved his family from
Berlin to Brazil and launched BungalowAgency in São Paulo with a focus on the
cultural exchange between Europe and
South America. His experience as the
head of the Bungalow record label is an
enormous asset for managing a variety
of international cultural projects.
Since
2006 he has organized a number of solo
exhibits by German artists in Brazil, and
in conjunction with the Goethe-Institut
he coordinated the German showcase of
the Virada Cultural in São Paulo and the
multi-day festival Blinddate Berlin.
Currently he is cooperating with
the Goethe-Institut São Paulo on several
projects for the German Year in Brazil
2013/2014. This includes concert tours
by German bands, as well as the first
Brazilian Sustainability Festival Podemos,
which will last several weeks and
offer cultural events including panels,
lectures, workshops, as well as artistic
and musical events all in the name of
sustainability.
Holger Beier was instrumental in
the De mi barrio a tu barrio / Urban
Heartbeat, both in its conception and
realization. The street art tour led him
on an exciting, five-week long journey to
seven Central American and Caribbean
countries. During this trip his scope of
responsibility included consulting and
organizing, while he was also in charge of
the photo and video documentation, and
last but not least he spun records at all of
the seven Urban Heartbeat parties.
